Teachers desiring leadership positions in public schools receive UA&P scholarship

- Rainier Allan Ronda -

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Education (DepEd) has announced that 40 scholarship grants were made available by the University of Asia and the Pacific to public school teachers who wish to prepare for leadership positions in school or specialize in early childhood education.

The two-year masteral program which offers a 48 percent subsidy on tuition and school fees is for teachers who will major in Educational Leadership or Child Development and Education. The grant offers 20 slots for each field of study.

The Educational Leadership program is meant primarily for teachers who are being prepared for leadership and key academic and administrative positions in their schools, especially those in basic education.

Education Secretary Mona Dumlao-Valisno said they welcomed the opportunity given by the UA&P to public school teachers wanting career growth in the public education sector. “We welcome this opportunity being opened to our teachers which could boost their personal and professional advancement,” Valisno said.

Valisno noted that public school teachers, “being pillars of quality education”, should be given venues to improve their knowledge “in terms of content in scientific disciplines, as well as to strike a balance between theory and practice”.

The program in Child Development and Education seeks to prepare early childhood teachers and specialists who can blend theory and practice in creating positive learning opportunities and experiences for children.
