Iya Villania, Drew Arellano ban their children from playing Roblox
MANILA, Philippines — TV host Iya Villania revealed that she and husband Drew Arellano have banned their children from playing the popular online game Roblox.
The couple decided to stop letting their children play Roblox because they noticed a change in their behavior.
Iya said in an episode of Camille Prats and Suzi Entrata-Abrera's podcast, "Kami Ang Inyong Mga," that she initially ignored her children playing the online game.
The host began to worry when they seemed to change. She was also surprised to see the character in the game Sonic.exe, which was a scary version of Sonic the Hedgehog.
“Nu’ng tiningnan ko I was like, ‘Bakit ganyan ‘yung itsura ni Sonic?’ Para siyang demonyo na Sonic. Sonic na may red eyes tapos ganu’n (matatalim) ‘yung ngipin,” she said.
“I was thinking, ‘Is this a normal character? Baka ‘di ko lang ‘to kilala.’ So ‘di ko lang masyado inisip. Hanggang sa they started getting scared at night kasi ‘yung mga jumpscare,” she added.
When she noticed that her children seemed to be addicted to Roblox, she and Drew decided to stop them from playing it.
“I was like, ‘Guys, wait up. Is this what you’re playing? Is this what it’s doing to you guys? Is it making you guys scared?’" she said.
“Their attitudes just changed. And parang when we take it away, they would get so upset. And siyempre, they were much younger then so hindi pa nila ma-regulate at maintindihan. So basta ‘pag tinanggal mo, nagwawala,” she added.
Iya also mentioned that the one who was really affected by playing Roblox was their eldest son, Primo.
“I know Primo. He’s such a sweet boy. And he’s such a smart boy. So, when he was going through that, I was like, 'Okay, this isn’t sitting well with me,'” she said.
They also decided to have a gadget break at home for a month, which was not easy for the children, who actually cried about their decision.
“After a month, or maybe even after two months, Drew and I were like, ‘Okay, you know what? We’re gonna bring back the gadgets but we’re taking away this game,’" she said.
“I felt so conflicted about the game. It just felt demonic for me, Mars,” she added.
