Oh-so-pretty Betty
LONDON, UK — Going to the first show of the day at Fashion Week is not easy. Doing your makeup, donning stilettos and putting together an outfit to meet Fashion Week standards (there is no point going looking like crap, is there?) is quite a task when you have to be at a show at 9 a.m. sharp.
So when my alarm rang at 7 a.m., I was really tempted to not even bother, but I made my way to Somerset House just the same.
I arrived about 20 minutes late, pleased that the show hadn’t started yet. To my surprise, my friend Rita Nazareno was sitting in front row next to me. Artist Tracy Emin sat directly across us on the other side of the catwalk. Also in the front row were Jimmy Choo, Stephen Jones and Jasper Conran.
As soon as the first look went down the ramp I knew it was completely worth getting up for. That’s because the collection is completely up my alley, similar to looks I have done in the past — from the puff sleeves to the ruffles, bows, random drapes, down to the sheer socks on heels. To be honest I’ve never really been a Betty Jackson fan, but this season, I’ve fallen in love.
A mix of marble prints in gray, fleshy pastel hues and dainty florals combined with a few stripes and metallics created a romantic but modern look. This collection is as Spring as it gets — sweet, girly, marmy/schoolgirl silhouettes with impressionable drapes.
I loved the soft cinching of the waist with fabric bows, layering of innerwear as outerwear, the ruffled collars, bustles, and the padded shoulders.
Huge attention to detail, with asymmetric ruffles falling from the collars of blazers, uneven hems of jackets, lace inserts, flowery rings and the amazing bags did more than just complete the look.
