Marcos teases Philippine General Hospital groundbreaking in Cavite
MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said a Philippine General Hospital branch in Carmona, Cavite will break ground this May, advancing a project first disclosed by officials in 2024.
The hospital plan had earlier been announced by then-Cavite Gov. Jonvic Remulla, who said a PGH branch would be built in Carmona following approval from the president. Remulla is now Interior secretary.
“Mag-groundbreaking daw kami itong Mayo na ito isang PGH na hospital sa Carmona,” Marcos said at a barangay event in Cavite on Monday, May 4. (We are opening a branh of PGH that would have 200 beds. We will break ground in May.)
The Manila-based PGH, under the University of the Philippines system, is the largest state-owned tertiary hospital in the Philippines.
Earlier public statements by Cavite officials described the planned Carmona PGH branch as a 600-bed teaching hospital, but the president's latest announcement put the planned capacity at 200 beds.
The hospital project is seen to grow healthcare infrastructure in the province where residents can benefit directly from national government's support, Malacañang said in a news release.
Marcos also said the project would help families cope with rising prices of basic commodities.
Details unclear. It was not immediately clear whether the 200-bed capacity figure refers to an initial phase or a revised project scope. There is also no timeline disclosed yet on when the hospital will be completed or will begin operations.
