ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — A woman was arrested after she allegedly beat to death her six-year-old daughter in Lamitan, Basilan on Saturday.

The arrest stemmed from a report of a neighbor who alerted police about the incident that occurred in Barangay Malinis, according to Col. Elmer Solon, chief of the Lamitan City police.

Investigation showed the girl went with her cousin to the market without asking permission from her mother.

The woman was furious when she could not find her daughter, prompting her to go out to search for the girl.

When the suspect met her daughter along the road, she took some twigs from a tree and beat up the girl.

The neighbor said that upon returning home, the woman reportedly placed the girl in a sack.

A few minutes later, the woman found her daughter unresponsive, prompting her to rush the girl to the Lamitan District Hospital, where the victim was declared dead on arrival.
