10 positive for mpox in South Cotabato

COTABATO CITY, Philippines — Ten residents of five towns in South Cotabato and in its capital, Koronadal City, have tested positive for mpox, officials announced yesterday.
Dr. Conrado Braña Jr., Integrated Provincial Health Office-South Cotabato chief, and several local executives separately confirmed that all 10 patients are in isolation facilities and closely watched by medical teams.
Braña said one mpox case each was confirmed in Banga, Tantangan and Lake Sebu towns, two in Surallah and four in T’boli.
All five towns are close to Koronadal, where a villager had also tested positive.
“We have 10 patients now. Everything is being done to prevent the spread of the disease to other areas in the province,” Braña said.
Gov. Reynaldo Tamayo Jr., South Cotabato provincial disaster risk reduction and management council chair, said the Department of Health in Region 12 is helping them address the problem.
Tamayo said the provincial health office is monitoring all 11 South Cotabato localities, in case the disease spreads further in the province.
