Rider nabbed for driving inside Taal church

MANILA, Philippines — A man was arrested for driving his motorcycle inside the Minor Basilica and Parish of Saint Martin of Tours in Taal, Batangas on Tuesday.
Video footage of the incident showed the suspect, identified only as Angelo, driving a motorcycle into the church with a female passenger.
The man climbed to the altar and sat on the priest’s chair with one foot raised while the woman walked away.
Parish priest Fr. Bernard Aguila said the man’s action was a desecration of a house of God.
Aguila said the church filed charges of interruption of religious worship as provided under Article 132 of the Revised Penal Code.
He said if the suspect committed the offense because of insanity, the church would forgive him and have him released from detention.
“But if he did that because he was under the infuence of illegal drugs, he should be held responsible for his action,” Aguila said.
Police said the suspect would be subjected to drug testing. – Arnell Ozaeta
