Marikina launches ‘car-free’ Sunday
MANILA, Philippines — Car-free Sundays have been launched in Marikina to encourage residents to engage in outdoor activities and recreational exercises.
A portion of Gil Fernando Avenue will be transformed into a pedestrian and bicycle-friendly space from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.
“We are promoting walking and biking to school and work. This is one way of giving residents a safe space so they can bond with their families and friends,” Mayor Marcelino Teodoro said.
At the initiative’s launch, city officials unveiled a mural celebrating Marikina’s commitment to sustainability, community and culture.
