MANILA, Philippines — Cotabato City is expected to continue to sizzle at 44 degrees Celsius tomorrow after it recorded a heat index of 42 degrees yesterday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA)describes heat indexes between 42 and 51 degrees Celsius as dangerous.

PAGASA said the heat could cause heat cramps and exhaustion, and may lead to heat stroke.

On Saturday, Cotabato City and Calapan in Oriental Mindoro recorded a heat index of 42 degrees Celsius.

The heat index in Cotabato City can reach 42 degrees Celsius today, according to state meteorologists.

On Saturday, Pasay City registered a heat index of 36 degrees Celsius, which may rise to 39 degrees on Tuesday, based on a two-day forecast of the PAGASA.

The public has been advised to limit staying outdoors and to keep hydrated by drinking plenty of water.

The country is expected to sizzle in the coming weeks with temperatures rising to as high as 40 degrees Celsius in Metro Manila and Northern Luzon due to the impact of the El Niño phenomenon.
