3 drown in Sultan Kudarat beach

COTABATO CITY, Philippines — Three persons drowned as they were swimming in a beach in Sultan Kudarat on Sunday.

Princess Shiecca Wakay, Venn Alieh Lampak and his brother Ricky were declared dead on arrival in a hospital in Lebak town.

Reports said the victims and their two companions were swimming amid heavy downpour in Barangay Kinudalan when lightning struck.

Police expressed belief the victims panicked, causing them to drown.

The victims’ companions – Jona and Nida, both surnamed Karon – were rescued by barangay emergency responders as they were trying to swim to the shore.
