2 drown in Nueva Ecija river

CABANATUAN CITY, Philippines — Two brothers drowned while swimming with their friends in a river in Purok 7, Barangay Julo in San Antonio, Nueva Ecija on Friday.

Reports reaching Col. Jess Mendez, acting Nueva Ecija police director, identified the victims as Eleazar Velasquez, 14, and his brother, Cooper, 12.

Initial investigation showed that Eleazar tried to save his brother who was swept away to the deep portion of the river.

The bodies of the victims were recovered before noon yesterday.
