MANILA, Philippines — Makati Mayor Abby Binay yesterday announced the opening of the first wave of job opportunities for the city’s subway project.

“As promised earlier, the Makati Subway will be generating jobs and providing an additional source of income for our Makatizens and their families. This project will forever change the landscape of Makati, and it is an honor for me and my administration to leave our beloved city this legacy,” Binay said.

The subway project, also called the Makati Intra-city Subway (MkTr), is an 11-kilometer underground rapid transit line that will link establishments across the Makati business district. The system will have two tracks, 10 underground stations and air-conditioned coaches that can accommodate 200 persons per car. It has a train yard, maintenance depot and central command center at ground level.

The project is well underway and construction and planning stages are in full swing, Binay said, noting that the project needs skilled and experienced engineers and other professionals.

Among the job vacancies are: BIM specialist for the engineering technology department, manager for the same department, engineering technician, surveying engineer and electrician.

Binay added that Makati residents will be prioritized in the job hiring, but the 22 job vacancies may also be filled by qualified non-Makati residents.

The Makati subway project also needs administrative personnel, an office driver, logistics personnel and a chef.

The mayor explained that additional skilled employees are required to expand the project team and ensure the orderly development of the project. Interested applicants may send their resumes to Danny Liang at [email protected].

Earlier, Binay said the subway project will create 10,000 new jobs for the construction and operation of the train system alone. This does not include additional jobs that will be created as a result of the efficient transport system in the city, she said.
