MANILA, Philippines — The city government of Muntinlupa is considering enforcing a one-way traffic scheme to address the traffic gridlock in the city due to the construction of the Skyway Extension project, an official said yesterday.

Both lanes of the South Luzon Expressway were affected by heavy traffic and this has caused motorists to use Muntinlupa’s main road, putting the city “under threat of shutting down,” according to Rep. Ruffy Biazon.

Public information office chief Tez Navarro told The STAR that Muntinlupa officials will meet with Skyway O&M Corp. (SOMCO) tomorrow to discuss their plans on the issue.

She said the city government is looking at implementing the one-way traffic scheme along Alabang-Zapote Road and other streets in the city.

Some of SLEX’s northbound lanes were closed to make way for the construction of the ramp that would allow motorists to drive directly to the Skyway from Susana Heights.

Once the northbound ramp is done, the southbound ramp will be constructed, SOMCO president Manuel Bonoan said on Friday.

The Skyway Extension project is expected to be finished by December next year.

Bonoan asked motorists to stay patient and understand that the project will be for the benefit of all once it is finished.
