Roel Pareño - The Philippine Star

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Despite ongoing clearing of debris and unexploded bombs in the main battle area, construction of infrastructure projects in Marawi will start in October.

Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, Western Mindanao Command chief, quoted Task Force Bangon Marawi officials as saying that construction works as well as the return of displaced families would continue until the end of President Duterte’s term.

Sobejana said the task force also clarified reports that the return of displaced families have been delayed. He said it started last July and is being done by sectors.

He said applications for financial assistance for the repair or construction of houses destroyed or damaged in the fighting with Maute militants is ongoing.

He also clarified that the National Housing Authority and not the Armed Forces of the Philippines subcontracted a private company to clear the main battle zone  of debris and locate unexploded bombs.
