DPWH worker commits suicide

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines – An employee of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) died after he threw himself in front of a speeding bus in an apparent suicide in this city on Friday.

Johnny Rivera, 45, of the DPWH regional office here, died at the scene, according to city police chief Superintendent Jessie Tamayao.

Bus driver Ernesto Abot said he failed to avoid the victim, as it was too late to step on the brakes.

Witnesses said the victim was seen sitting on the roadside, apparently waiting for the bus.
