CEBU, Philippines - To improve local’s quality of life, a private power firm in the City of Naga yesterday turned over a check to Mayor Valdemar Chiong.

Kepco-Salcon Power Corp., operator of a 200-megawatt coal-fired power plant in the city, handed the check amounting to P162,830.75 to the mayor for the livelihood program of the Ang Nagahanong-gasa sa Kabataan program.

The simple turnover ceremony was held in the multi-purpose hall at the City Hall.

At least 40 selected families in Sitio Seaside, Barangay North Poblacion are the pioneering beneficiaries of the Anak-Naga program.

The Anak-Naga is a sub-project of the Millennium Development Goals-Family Based Actions for Children and their Environs in the Slums (MDG-FACES). Its primary aim is to improve the quality of life of the selected families and their children living in the slums.

“What we are contributing here is not much. But with your full commitment and perseverance, this may go a long way to make a difference in the lives of your respective families,” said Kepco President Chang Yong Cho who personally turned over the check.

Chang Yong was happy that the national government chose the city as one of the recipients of the program as he expressed confidence that its goals and purpose will definitely be achieved.

In his response, Mayor Chiong thanked Kepco for its funding support as he hoped that the harmonious relationship and partnership between the city and the coal-fired power firm management will continue for their mutual benefits.   (FREEMAN)
