In the style of Luis Barragán

MANILA, Philippines — French girl fever shows no signs of cooling for the hot summer months. Until this Sunday in the modernist ambiance of National Artist for Architecture Pablo Antonio’s ancestral residence, the designer Clivia Nobili is adding a perspective from Lille in the city-centric style conversation that’s been dominated by Paris and recently Marseille, thanks to collections like Jacquemus’ La Bomba.
Genevieve Sabate, Nobili’s marketing manager and representative, demystifies the trend: “French style is about mixing pieces, not doing a coordinated outfit from top to bottom. You can rotate the same pieces for socials as well as work. To be able to have references to artists and architects — that is the singularity of French style and Clivia is one of those.”
For spring/summer, Nobili looks to the structures by Mexican architect Luis Barragán and executes it in his palette of bright oranges and blues and in boxy shapes like that of Barragán’s modernist style. Using fabrics mostly from France and some from Portugal and Poland, the production process is artisanal with a finish that’s meant to be worn for life.
