READ MY LIPSTICK - Regina Belmonte - The Philippine Star

When it comes to clothing, there are a handful of us who, try as we might, just cannot hack floral prints. Maybe they’re a little too sweet and too feminine for us. Maybe we’re good girls dressed in bad girl skin. But the great equalizer, when it comes to turning your floral inspiration into real life execution, is makeup. Pick up vibrant hues from your favorite blooms; translate the clever blending of colors from petal base to petal tip (because that is some absolutely brilliant blending) into a soft shadow look, or just swipe on a pop of poppy red to brighten up your face.

Budding beauty

The easiest makeup move, regardless of what plant you draw inspiration from (in our case, these bromeliads): Red, red, red. Kick it up a notch with a touch of red on the eyes — in lash form.

Blue is the warmest color

Gold creates a great contrast to blue, and patterned gold foil was used on the eyelids to pick up the shape of hydrangeas’ round petals.

Rattle and roll

Not all flower-inspired looks need to include pink. Rattlesnake flowers inspired a shimmering wash of orange, yellow, and gold all over the lid.

Cabbage patch kid

You can pick up hues from any plant and incorporate them into your look, like the purple-pink veins of cabbage roses, translated here onto lips. Bold blush looks striking on every face; use it to contour if you’re feeling edgy.
