Anatomy of a Friday night

Bea J. Ledesma - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - It’s Friday. Do you know where you’ll be tonight? YStyle maps out the Friday night scene for you.

What: Date Night

Where: Rocket Room  (tel. 621-3111)

Wear: The bar’s ambiance invites guests to dress up on a night out on the town. Pauline sports a belted G-Star Raw dress, while Robbie heads out in a Super Dry cam jacket, polo shirt and pants.

Eat: Rocket Room’s bar grub is perfect for the Friday night cazh date, with fire-roasted truffled mushroom pizza and crisp pork belly chips.

What: Chill night with friends

Where: Nolita (tel. 553-6297)

Wear: So you’re in the middle of some hardcore hanging out. You spent the afternoon parked by Bonifacio High Street Central’s amphitheater, walking your dog in your Super Dry hood and Replay denim shorts (if you’re Pauline) or your Super Dry T-shirt layered under a Lyle & Scott shirt from General and Replay cargo shorts (if you’re Robbie).

Eat: Nolita is famous for its pizza, inspired by New York’s finest. Chow on some chicken parmesan pizza and a grilled chicken and broccoli sandwich, followed by dessert — some old-fashioned cannoli.

What: Post-work dinner and drinks

Where: Cue Modern Barbecue (tel. 621-4052)

Wear: Fresh from the office means a spin on Casual Friday. Pauline amps up a T-shirt and jeans ensemble with a sharply-cut blazer, all from G-Star. Robbie burns some steam in simplified corporate garb. Having shucked his coat and traded his shirt and tie for a classic button-down, all from Replay, he’s ready to unwind over some barbecue.

Eat: Chow on some crunchy baby squid and their signature dish, the cholesterol-busting bone marrow and steak tacos, while sipping some fruity alcoholic beverages to curb the post-office tension like Cue’s watermelon martini and Southside Slush.

What: Weekend starter

Where: Beso Modern Spanish Kitchen (tel. 621-2554)

Wear: For many, the weekend begins at 5 p.m. on a Friday afternoon. Maximize the weekend and chill in summer separates that evoke low-key vacations, even if you are in the middle of the city. Pauline starts the weekend in a knit sweater and dress from Super Dry and Spy sunglasses from General, while Robbie sips some sangria in a shirt, cardigan and trousers by Lyle & Scott and Sunglasses by Spy, all from General.

Eat: Laze away the beginning of the afternoon with Beso’s mini chorizo burgers and sinful queso de bola cheesecake topped with bacon flakes. Watch the sunset, while sipping some sweet sangria.
