Looks for now

STYLE FINDER - Vicky Tensuan -

The holidays are waaay over and you think putting on a party face is too much; on the other hand, it’s not yet quite summer and you don’t want to pile on the bronzer just yet. We’ve come up with three easy, wearable and very now makeup looks to take you through the Christmas-summer transition. We present options so wearable, you may want to keep these looks all year long.

Nude awakening

A nude palette on the face is probably one of the natural and universally flattering. That is, if you get the correct shades; otherwise, it can easily wash you out, making you look like one of Michael Jackson’s backup dancers on the Thriller. For this look, M.A.C guest makeup artist Ria Gamboa used the Beauty Powder Blush in Personal Style (P1,200), a light mauve taupe shade that contours the face as it lifts the complexion. On the lips, a creamy mid-tone neutral lipstick in Empowered (P950) was applied. Don’t forget to line the eyes and amp up the mascara — this look is perfect to emphasize the eyes.

Plum role

For evenings, try to veer away from the run-of-the-mill smoky-eye look. It may be dramatic, yes, but everyone is wearing it and you can get more mileage by stealing the spotlight with a plum lip. With the right shade, the effect is beautiful, not gothic. We like the lipstick in Happy Hour (P950), a sheer blue-toned mauve with a luster finish. You may keep the rest of the face bare but also put your attention on the brows. With the Impeccable Brow in Taupe (P870), you can draw short, feathering strokes until you get the desired thickness. And since you’re sporting a dark lip, lighten the brows with Brow Set in Mink (P870) — it does wonders!

Everyday glamour

If you’re quite the glamour girl and are hooked on ‘50s period movies and TV series (think Mad Men), stir a little bit more flamboyance into the tired look. We love the drama of red, but a punch of orange mixed into it can add tons of flair. For the lips, Ria used a lipstick in Morange (P950), but applied it with her finger to soften the look. And of course, no glamour look is complete without those lashes. False lashes in Lash #4 (P750) were glued on to the base of the lashes for a striking effect. And if you prefer to stick it out with coats of mascara, try the Studio Fix Lash (P780) to make eye pop out.
