Comic book holiday gift guide!

THESE AREN'T THE DROIDS YOU'RE LOOKING FOR - Jiggy and Jonty Cruz -

They say the holidays are the most wonderful time of the year. But it’s also one of the most tiring, thanks to all the Christmas shopping. From buying the perfect purse for your girlfriend, the perfect pair of sneakers for your boyfriend, and that new book for your dad, you might as well be Santa with all those gifts you’re giving. But fear not! We’re here to be your little helpers. We don’t know much about fashion, but what we lack in style, we more than make up for in comics! So if you’ve ever wanted to give a comic to your loved ones, then here are the three picks, we’re pretty sure will do the trick!

Y:  The Last Man By Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra

There are just some comics that transcend the medium. Those stories that are just that good, regardless of where it’s being told. Like Watchmen and Sandman before it, Y: The Last Man is a modern classic. We’d argue that it’s this generation’s comic book. The story is simple enough: a worldwide plague kills every man and animal with a Y-chromosome, save for one man, Yorick Brown, and his pet monkey in a world full of women. Before you say “Best. Porno. Ever”, creators Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra will give you thrills, humor, and tears all throughout Y’s 60 issues. It doesn’t matter who you are, or what you like, we guarantee that you’ll love Y: The Last Man.

One, Two, Three, Twelve: Manix Abrera manages to tell compelling and charming stories without saying a single word.

Ultimate Spider-Man By Brian Michael Bendis And Mark Bagley

The superhero for the new millennium has been here all along. Ultimate Spider-Man is more than just a retelling of Spider-man’s origins. It’s truly a modern take on the beloved web-head. Written by Brian Michael Bendis and drawn by Mark Bagley, Peter Parker’s journey into becoming the hero he was meant to be has never been this good in decades. It’s the best reboot that any superhero comic has ever had. Bendis brings in a unique voice to the Spider-Man mythology and it’s something fans have really loved. This is a true must-have for any comic book reader and a perfect start to anyone who wants to be.

12 By Manix Abrera

The beauty of the comic book is that sometimes you don’t need words to tell a story. Manix Abrera gives 12 perfect short stories, with nothing but pictures and sheer genius talent. Winner of the 2011 Komikon Award for best graphic novel, 12 will make you feel the whole gamut of emotions. You will laugh, cry, and even feel awkward. The best part is that it will leave you wanting more. Highest possible recommendation!

World Wide Web: Thousands of readers all over the world both old and new got back to comics thanks to Ultimate Spider-Man.

Of course there are so many great comics just waiting to be read. But we believe that these three graphic novels are perfect for anyone who’s ever even wondered about reading comics. And if these suggestions fail, then we’ve not only let you down, dear reader, but ourselves as well.
