Two comic greats come in for a one-night-only stand-up comedy show tonight with Russell Peters and Jo Koy live at the NBC Tent.

Russell Peters is a superstar in the comedy world, gaining fame without ever appearing on network television in the US. Having been selling out theaters across the US and Canada, he has built an enormous following by word of mouth, completely bypassing mainstream outlets.

His is known by speaking to people that no one else is talking to. Much of his comedy speaks to immigrant communities around the world — Indian, Arab, Caribbean, Chinese, Filipino, Korean, Vietnamese, and other South and Southeast Asian communities that remain invisible to the mainstream media and sometimes to the boarder white population. Having been doing comedy for 17 years, he built a very impressive resume. He has a recurring role in the Canadian sitcom Lord Have Mercy, and hosted his own BBC chat show Network East Live. His movie credits include the comedy Quarter Life Crisis, My Baby’s Daddy, Tiger Claws III and The Take. He has been nominated four Gemini Awards (the Canadian equivalent of the Emmys) and has been featured in numerous shows. He has performed in China, South Africa, Australia, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Jamaica, St. Maartens, Trinidad, Singapore, United Arabs and India.

Famous for his quick wit, infectious on stage energy, sharp observational humor and inspirational family-based laughs, Jo Koy is one of the hottest comics in the industry. His performance covers a variety of topics from his ambiguous ethnicity growing up with a Filipino mother, to his life as a father. His unique stand-up and loud stage presence has fans of all ages and racial backgrounds convulsing with laughter. Fans are hailing him as “a comic for the people” because of his having a dynamic energy on stage yet a charismatic and approachable persona off it.

Jo Koy just locked in a deal with Comedy Central to do a one-man special as well as to develop his own sitcom. He is a regular featured comedian at the world famous Laugh Factory, tours the college circuit nationwide and performs in comedy clubs in Canada and the US. With his catchy phrase, “I love orange chicken,” Jo Koy continues to embark on a comedy that transcends his goals.
