Young Star

Welcome black

MEANWHILE - MEANWHILE By Michelle Katigbak -
There was a series of parties last year in some of the hottest Manila nightspots that celebrated powerful young achievers and their friends and brought people together to mingle and dance the nights away while enjoying smooth rich flavored scotch mixed with sweet clear cola. Can you guess what I’m talking about? If you said Black 7 you got it right on the money!

This year black is back! With a hearty following of delicious scotch connoisseurs, Johnnie Walker brings back the parties that rock Manila’s hip young social set in a new wave of fun and merriment. The on-going bash began a few weeks ago at the Greenbelt bar Nuvo with the Black 7 Reunion Party. The evening brought back the honorees from last year’s party series in an all night free-flowing scotch 7 fest that gave the tired and weary folk of Manila a welcome break from the rains and a delightful excuse to party the night away. Among the honorees from last year who were in attendance I spotted Philippine STAR’s Ipe Cruz, DJs Steve Mills and Edge Pamute, Dale Villar, good-looking couple Bianca Valerio and Mikee Carrion, Mike Huang, Alvin Aguilar, and Joel Ong.

And as for me, I always look forward to the Black 7 parties. First of all, thanks to the seven bashes last year I developed a taste for a drink other than my usual wimpy tequila rose or vodka-seven-up (more seven-up than vodka). While many people still claim that Johnnie Walker Black is better served straight-up or on the rocks (I’m sure they’re right, after all, they’re the real scotch lovers!) I’ll happily imbibe Black 7 which offers the weaker alcohol lovers a drink that boasts the delectable taste of delicious scotch laced with a clear cola to soften it up.

On August 26, Black 7 begins with a bang with the first party Black Knights celebrating the metro’s hippest and hottest young bar owners in an all night party at V Bar, in homage to Manila’s reigning Black Knight, Louie Y. Black Knights brings together Capones’ Jay Server, Temple’s Eric Cua, Ponticello’s Albert Besa, Yaku’s Jason Webb and Mark Villar, and Teak Bar’s Beaver Lopez. It’ll be the place to party the night away and celebrate with the city’s undisputed kings of the nightlife and is sure to be a blast as these young men are the authorities on having fun and partying the night away is their specialty.

To be sure, all scotch lovers definitely have a reason to head out these next few months. Black Knights is just the beginning. I’m looking forward to future parties for all different types of eclectic Johnnie Walker men — retailers and artists to name a few. See you at the scotch fest!
