() - June 26, 2011 - 12:00am

MANILA, Philippines - There is something about exchanging ‘’I do’s’’ with the sunrise or sunset as the backdrop, the powdery, white sand sifting between your toes, the cold mountain breeze wafting through the air.

But destination weddings need not be a plane ride away. In Calatagan, Batangas, a two-hour drive from Manila, Golden Sunset Resort has been spruced up with a wedding gazebo amid its lush, vast garden, and other facilities to make for an ideal place for out-of-town nuptials.

Golden Sunset has spacious air-conditioned family rooms to accommodate the wedding party, family members, and the entourage days before the ceremonies. Two-bedroom family suites can also accommodate up to 15 people per suite.

Wedding guests may take a tour of Calatagan, which may include a visit to the Punta de Santiago lighthouse, the oldest lighthouse in Batangas that was built in 1890. Calatagan used to be called Hacienda de Calatagan and is known to be the site of the famous Calatagan excavations. Unique pottery and utensils are on exhibit at the Golden Sunset Museum.

The resort’s Serendipity Spa, offers a variety of relaxing and rejuvenating massage treatments, hair spa, and foot spa.

For the wedding ceremony, Golden Sunset is only a few minutes away from the historic Santo Domingo de Silos Church which was built in the 1890s. For Christian or ecumenical weddings, Golden Sunset has wide open spaces and lush greenery for garden nuptials, while its ballroom can accommodate up to 300 persons for the wedding reception.

Newlyweds may avail of the Golden Sunset honeymoon package, inclusive of three days / two nights accomodation at a junior suite room; two days set meals for two; candlelight dinner on the first night; welcome drinks and upon arrival at the resort; full body massage for two at the Serendipity Spa; one bottle of champagne; and a fruit basket.

This romantic wedding getaway has seven pools, which include kiddie pools, Olympic-size pools, water fountains, Jacuzzis, hydromassage and water slides; a butterfly farm; an aviary; an outdoor museum gallery, bicycle rentals and winding bike paths; and three restaurants.

Golden Sunset has 75 rooms, which can accommodate 140 people, plus a dormitory which can house 42 heads.  For reservations, call the Manila booking office at 636-1687 or 634-3109 or email mailto:info@travelprosph.com.
