LET'S PLAY: A comments section game of trolls

Stefan Punongbayan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - I’m almost certain I’m not the only Filipino who wakes up every day feeling like they’re trapped in a chapter penned by George R.R. Martin, except with an invisible hand cueing a laugh track each time somebody gets killed, or something stupid gets said. Such is what happens when people seat Aerys II Targaryen in Malacañang. For the next six years, it’s valar morghulis.

Every day goes exactly the same: you fold your sheets, splash your face with water coming out of your low-pressure faucet, take a sip of your morning coffee, and if you’re like me, smoke a couple of cigarettes before getting one-upped by your curiosity and heading straight to the comments section of every news article on your feed. Yes, the comments section — the one place in the known universe where hopes and dreams come to die. You’d be better off talking to a brick wall instead of standing next to this digital soapbox as there’s no chance of said wall gaining sentience to sling copious amounts of horsesh*t at your face.

Yet, this shouldn’t stop you from having fun this weekend. To keep what’s left of your sanity, here is a little game you can play the next time you find yourself in a clickhole. Gather your closest Facebook friends, comb through the comments of any news article, blog, of social media post to play this special game of B-I-N-G-O. It may be impossible to engage diehard believers in sober discourse, but if you can’t beat them, you can always laugh at them.

Sa letrang B for “BIAS”…
