What to watch on stage: ‘Games People Play’

Psychologists have devised many methods to describe why we are the way we are. In the Palanca-winning play Games People Play, playwright Glenn Sevilla Mas uses the games we played as children to explore how we’ve become who we are today. Mas was inspired by a quote child psychologist and writer Bruno Bettelheim once said: The monster a child knows best and is most concerned with [is] the monster he feels or fears himself to be. The result is a cynical yet intelligent play that hits all the right places. The production runs for a limited time only, and will have its last shows today at 2:30 p. m. and 7:30 p. m. at the Fine Arts Blackbox Theater, Fine Arts Annex, Ateneo de Manila University. Tickets are available at the GPP Games People Play Facebook page.

Where to let out your inner ‘beki’: Bed Manila anniversary

The beki lifestyle has been part of the mainstream for the longest time. Practically everybody speaks beki, even those straight guys with huge biceps, and everyone has a beki best friend. But you don’t really know beki unless you party at Bed Manila, the gay mecca that is an institution in LGBT Philippines. For 11 years, the club has indulged the wild side of gay men, from its almost nightly parties to its packed dancefloor and deadly drinks (hello, Blue Frog). Tonight, Bed Manila will have its 11th anniversary and the party promises to be insane. The club will have its usual roster of amazing DJs, but tonight will have special performances by 38 Degrees, Las Mujeres, Allen Molina and the… Bed Bikini Boys. There will also be free cocktails until 1 a. m. You don’t even have to be gay to enjoy this. Bed is located at Mayflower Street, Mandaluyong.

Where to shop: Escolta Future Market

The monthly Saturday Future Market @ Escolta is back again to sell its hipster wares for art fans and those looking for their vintage fix. The event has become something to look forward to for those who love records, books, art, clothing, and accessories. There’s something about the items at the Future Market that makes you feel you can’t find it anywhere else. Today’s edition of the Future Market will mark the first appearance of Tyang, an artist who’s making a name for herself in the street art scene. Her tyangs are becoming fixtures among the creative set, and she will offer personalized Tyanganize sessions today at Escolta. Allow the artist to transform your pretty face to something that both attracts and repels. She will be one of many talented artists who will be part of the market, so bring tons of cash. It’ll be worth it.

Whose art to see: Simone Legno of Toki Doki

There was a time in the late aughties when everyone had those LeSportSac bags with the cute cartoon characters. To the uninformed, the bags are part of a collaboration with tokidoki, a Japanese-inspired lifestyle brand that sells apparel featuring the now-famous characters. Today, Simone Legno, the artist who drew the iconic characters (who all have names), will be in the country for a meet and greet at Vinyl on Vinyl, The Collective, Makati. The art gallery will sell tokidoki toys and shirts for the artist and creative director to sign. At 4 p. m., he will also be at the Block Atrium for a live art session. Come support street art and be overwhelmed by kawaii overload.
