Koji Arsua - The Philippine Star

Join the Pasinaya revelry

MANILA, Philippines - The largest one-day multi-arts festival in the country is back for another explosion of activities that will take over practically every corner of the CCP. This year’s theme is the Chinese arts and culture, and will feature over 120 shows and 3,000 performers in a one-day extravaganza tomorrow. Activities will feature music, theater, art, dance, film, literature, and all sorts of artistic pursuits for people of all ages. The performances will be led by the CCP’s resident companies, with participation by Chinese schools, performance groups, performers, and organizations. As always, the Pasinaya house rules are: See all you can, pay what you can. Madness and revelry begins at 8 a.m. and will last until 7 p.m.

Grrrl Scouts: General Assembly

This general assembly won’t be like any other. We mean, what kind of general assembly would have Gaijin, Pupil, Pedicab, Ciudad, The Diegos and Ernville as their front acts? Tonight, Grrrl Scout will teach us a lesson in good music at General Assembly, happening at Alphonse, City Golf, Pasig. Door charge is P150 and will include a chance to win AiAiAi earphones, headphones and shirts.

Catch the Spring Film Festival

It’s a spring awakening, and Ateneo’s Ricardo Leong Center for Chinese Studies, Confucius Institute, and Credit Suisse are getting together for the 7th Spring Film Festival at the Shangri-La Plaza Mall. The theme is the different faces of Chinese society, anchored on the concept of keeping bridges between the Philippines and China. For this year, the films featured are award winners from various festivals around the world, from Hong Kong, Shanghai, Tokyo, and Miami. A painting and photo exhibit will run with the films to portray life in China. The festival will run from Feb. 1 to 10, and schedules are available at the Shang Cineplex at 633-2227.

Support a jazz band

Tonight, Extrapolation Trio is launching their first EP, called “Golden Age Thinking,” at SaGuijo in Makati. Extrapolation is a young and independent jazz band, and what sets them apart from other musicians is their age. The band is composed of college students who started playing jazz when they were sophomores in high school. The group defines their music as “not your daddy’s jazz,” and their album is a compilation of jazz and funk classics and original compositions. The launch starts at 7:30 p.m. and will be joined by Ivan Theory, Stomachine, Mann Atti, Fuzz, and a DJ set by Justin de Guzman. Entrance will be free.
