SUPREME PICKS: 6 awesome things to do this weekend

By Koji Arsua - The Philippine Star

Geek out at Komikon

MANILA, Philippines - Comic book fans will descend on today’s Komikon, the biannual comics convention where artists and publishers present their ideas and works to a hungry audience. The highlight of the event is the focus on local works and artists, as well as workshops and talks from established artists. This year’s lineup includes Dexter Soy, Michael David and Ed Tadeo. Other activities include the Komiks Kalye where you can have your favorite artists draw your sketches, an indie komiks tiangge, and many contests. Komikon 2012 will be held at the Bayanihan Center, Pasig City.

Get wet at the Axe Bikini Car Wash

Babes will wash your filthy cars and feed your filthier minds — but this time, for a cause. Axe Philippines is raising funds to help clean Boracay’s beaches. Seventy car owners will have their vehicles cleaned by sexy ladies in exchange for a P250 donation (Axe will in turn match the amount). For the rest of us, feel free to watch and rest in the knowledge that your voyeurism is for a good cause. The Axe Bikini Car Wash happens today from 1-5 p. m. at ASEANA City, Roxas Boulevard.

Channel your inner surfer in La Union

Can’t wait for summer? There’s no better way to celebrate the season in advance than by heading over to La Union for Surfing Break 7. Held this weekend, it aims to glorify the season and the surfing lifestyle by holding fun activities. You may have missed out on yesterday’s surfing clinic, bikini open and the beach party, but you have today to come over for the surfboard design contest, beach volleyball finals and Oktoberfest. But you shouldn’t miss tomorrow’s surfing competition, kite-flying competition, closing ceremony and the biggest beach party outside the summer season. It takes six hours to get to Urbiztondo, La Union from Manila so get your ass moving!

Get wicked at Republiq

Okay, this happens on Wednesday, but it’s too good to pass up. The Annual Republiq Halloween Ball happens on Oct. 31 with “Wicked Wonderland” as its theme. Be prepared for your senses to be assaulted with ear candy by resident DJs Marc Naval, Martin Pulgar, Mars Miranda, and Ace Ramos. The house will implement a no-costume, no-entry policy, so come dressed in mystery and shrouded in fantasy.

Meet the Kardashians at Fashion Week

Keeping up with the Kardashians may now be easier, thanks to Human, which is bringing Rob and Kylie Kardashian to walk for their show during Philippine Fashion Week. Human is the latest brand to bring in foreign endorsers, tapping into the white-hot celebrity-driven clothing market in the Philippines. The show happens today at the SM Mall of Asia Atrium at 3 p.m. Head on over, and don't forget to bring your TMZ-worthy cameras.

Gay it up at the Big Becky Monster Costume Ball

The Becky Monster Ball will be hosted by the guys (and girl) behind the successful podcast hit Becky Nights and the collective that is the Panty Monsters, a group known for their avant-garde style and fantastic taste in music. Guys, girls, and everyone in between get in free (there’s no door charge) at KYSS Superclub tonight in their fiercest outfits and win prizes worth P100,000. Expect to see glitter, sequins, blood, and lots and lots of flesh — and we’re only talking about one person.
