The return of Beauty and the Beach

- Cai Subijano -

MANILA, Philippines - Last April 14 and 15, Women’s Health magazine celebrated its third anniversary in Boracay with its annual Beauty and Beach event. “We’ve seen such a big success in the past three years and so we prepared this year to be bigger and better,” said editor in chief Lara Parpan.

The two-day event involved fun workout activities, like Hapa Houle Hula, Cardio Mash-Up, Hatha Flow Yoga, and African Jam that beach-goers got to participate in with every purchase of the April issue of Women’s Health that had no other than the stunning (and sexy) Anne Curties on the cover. Participants were briefed on how many calories each workout can burn on average so they could choose which ones to join.

Hosted by former radio DJ Hilary Isaac, the activities started with Hapa Houle Hula, a Polynesian dance workout, on the first day, which taught participants how to shake and shimmy their hips and arms in order to tone them. Lara joined during the intensive Cardio Mash-up after and let loose to the music of KeSha’s Blow. Afterward, Beauty and the Beach hosted a Sunset Chill-Out party with free-flowing drinks by The Bar, featuring low-calorie drinks by Women’s Health.

Women’s Health editor in chief Lara Parpan joins the participants in practicing their flexibility, balance and strength with Kojie-san’s Hatha Flow Yoga. The soothing class was moderated by expert Louise Lee.

The next morning began with a relaxing session of Hatha Flow Yoga, where members did their sun salutations under the bright blue sky of Boracay and the day ended with a highly energetic African Jam session. After enjoying the two-day event by the beach, all participants got to take home freebies, like a Women’s Health shoe bag and singlet, along with products from sponsors like Gatorade Low Carb, A!life Control, and Kojie San.
