Supreme

Like you've never seen before

SUPREMO - Tim Yap -

Undisputed queen of Twitter and multi-media crossover star Anne Curtis-Smith tweets “I’ve never done anything like this in my entire career.” It is this spirit of taking risks, calculated experiments and winner-takes-it-all attitude that makes her the perfect subject for Supreme’s third year of “dreaming in print” here at The Philippine STAR. At the “ripe old” age of twenty-something, Anne has already gone through several stages in her life and career, and we’ve followed her through it all.

Just like Anne (Page I-1), your Saturday habit has gone through a lot, and then some. Turning one for Supreme reminded us exactly where we want to be. It was the year we started our Supreme to the Extreme Awards, recognizing the best and brightest in Pinoy pop culture.

Last year, we turned 2, and realized that it takes two — me and you. So instead of throwing a big party as we are wont to do, we decided to use the event as a fund raiser for others — those affected by Ondoy. Week after week, we strive to make a difference, by gathering the best and the brightest, and translating their thoughts, aspirations, and action (mind you, I didn’t say “dreams”) onto the printed page.

Last Saturday, in front of students and bloggers, we had our team of experts on the F word (film, fashion and the future) share what they know. Supreme Talks (G-4) at SOFA (School of Fashion and the Arts) made us more in touch with you, dear reader, as we constantly aim to have a dialogue with the people who matter the most. Next week, we’ll be going to the movies to catch the much-awaited Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps at the Resorts World Cinemas (G-4). And before the year ends, the return of Supreme to the Extreme Awards! As we always say, “You are invited.”

Three Times A Charm

Our third year brings more exciting challenges — a demolition on the streets of EDSA, the President eating a hotdog on the streets of New York, American Idol has new judges, and Charice makes us all Glee-fully proud. Clearly, there is something in the air and you gotta continue flowing with the wind to enjoy the journey and find out what the next destination is.

Flip through our Supreme sections today and you’ll see the fruits of a collaborative effort between writers, artists, graphic designers, stylists, photographers, and more creative peeps all churning out a labor of love to show you something “like you’ve never seen before.” Not as easy to produce with a fickle audience exposed to everything new and now, but it is what we keep in our minds and hearts each week we put Supreme to bed.

Aside from making a man out of Anne Curtis, we also have first dibs on new modeling find Pauline Prieto (H-2) right before she competes under the Philippine flag for the Elite Model Look. We predict Pauline to be the country’s next preeminent pouter, a flag bearer for females not just in fashion, but beyond it — just like the people who are at the top of their fields, Supreme players whom we asked to share what they’ve learned along the way (J-1).

We’re now on third base — we know that we still have a long way to go on this journey but one thing we can assure you, “you ain’t seen nothing yet.”
