Libera performs at PICC today

-

MANILA, Philippines - From the South of London and from across the world, Libera is ready to enthrall Filipinos with its celestial music as they stage their first Philippine concert on Oct. 25 (Sunday) at the PICC as the highlight of the RP-UK Friendship Week 2009. They will also perform on Oct. 28 at the Waterfront-Lahug, Cebu City.

Libera will be here as Ambassadors of Goodwill to help the British Alumni Association (BAA), in partnership with the British Chamber of Commerce, the British Council, and British Embassy in Manila, to raise funds for BAA’s Foundation for the Disadvantaged Children, as well as for the Children’s Hour.

The non-profit group, composed of boys ages seven to 16, who come from various backgrounds and attend local schools mainly from South London, became famous for their unique renditions of the classics, as well as some contemporary songs. Their cherub-like voices give a celestial timbre to their renowned repertoire including Always With You, Far Away, Going Home, Ave Maria, Sanctus and Adoramus, Sing Forever and Love and Mercy. They also sing songs like How Can I Keep from Singing and the YouTube favorite Orinoco Flow originally by Celtic-New Age artist Enya.

To date, Libera’s albums have topped both mainstream and classical charts in many countries, and their recordings are in the Top 10s alongside major artists like Andrea Bocelli. Their album, Eternal, reached number one in the charts, the first time ever for a boys’ choir to achieve this status.

The choice to have Libera as one of the events of the RP-UK 2009 Friendship Week is a breath of fresh air for the Philippine concert scene. Former Finance Secretary and BAA chairman Roberto de Ocampo describes their music as “ethereal and mood changing, embodying peaceful feelings that seem to transport one to another calmer, gentler place.”

Libera Philippine Tour is another Concertus Production.            “Libera Live In Manila” is presented by Shell, co-presented by Globe, BG Philippines, Stradcom, SR Metals, Liwayway Marketing, Thunderbird Resorts.
