Seeing double

WORDS WORTH - Mons Romulo -
You sometimes see them walking on the street and you do a double take: Isn’t that…? Doesn’t she look like…?

We call them "separated at birth" – people who make us feel like we’re seeing double. They look like they’re siblings or a younger/older version of somebody else. Here, our respondents tell us of their experiences in having a look-alike.

If you know more look-alikes, send their names and pictures to monswordsworth@yahoo.com.

KAREN DAVILA, broadcaster:
My first experience in being mistaken for someone was when I was in third year high school. Kris Aquino, who was then my classmate, and I were stuck in Divisoria. People kept screaming "Kris, Kris!" And then we heard voices shouting "Sharon, Sharon!" which made us wonder if Sharon Cuneta was there, only to find out they thought I was Sharon! It’s funny, because from that time on I cannot count the instances where people have said I resemble Sharon in some way. Let me just say, I am extremely flattered – being a super Sharonian myself. But I don’t know if Sharon would want me as a look-alike.

RISSA MANANQUIL SAMSON, president, PMAP (Professional Models Association of the Philippines)
To be compared to such a pretty girl like Angel Locsin is flattering! It’s amusing how I have been mistaken for Angel many times at the mall, especially when my hair was much longer and pulled back in a ponytail. People would call out "Angel!" or "Darna!" When my hair was cut short for Bench Fix’s new ad campaign, I thought I’d never be mistaken for her again, thinking it was just the ponytail. But when I went to the States for a vacation, even Pinoys there thought I was her. When I said I wasn’t, one woman wouldn’t believe me and even insisted I was Angel wearing a disguise!

NINI RAMOS LICAROS:
I don’t mind having a celebrity look-alike. We all have look-alikes and being compared to celebrity is almost always a compliment. I don’t have any funny story in particular. But I do remember seeing my celebrity look-alike, Judy Ann Santos on TV for the first time. She was on this soap opera and I had to pause for a few minutes and just stare at her face. Our features were so similar. It was really fascinating.

ANTOINETTE ENCISO OCAMPO,
businesswoman and model: I’ve never been mistaken for Celine Lopez but people do say we look alike. It’s fun because we call each other "Sis." Question is, who’s the ate?

JAMIE RIVERA, singer: I
’m proud to be a look-alike of one of the most beautiful senators in our country, Loren Legarda.

TED FAILON, TV and radio personality:
Thank goodness my look-alike, Ambassador Donald Dee is a business leader, not a criminal.

ANTHONY ABAD,
international trade lawyer: My look-alike Ram Antonio is actually a very close friend of mine now and we first met because my colleagues at Days with the Lord wanted me to meet this new guy whom they said looked just like me. When we were classmates at Ateneo Law our professor would always get us mixed up during recitation. And before she had met Ram, my mom even pulled me aside to tell me: "Hon, that guy looks like you." Until now, we are both constantly mistaken for each other. And when I am asked if we are related, I just say, "He’s my evil twin."
