7 things 'Back to the Future' sequel predicted wrong about 2015

MANILA, Philippines — Oct. 21, 2015 — Today is the day when we finally find out whether characters Marty McFly, Emmett "Doc" Brown and Jennifer Parker from the '80s sci-fi film "Back to the Future" were right about what they called "future."

RELATED: It's time for 'Back to the Future' Day

In the second installment of the trilogy, the characters explored time by being transported from 1985 to 2015.  The movie envisioned hoverboards, flying cars, fax machines and jackets that dry themselves. But what did they  get wrong about 2015?

1. Hoverboards

The year 2015 has managed to come up with hover boards, but definitely not the kind the floats without wheels like those shown by Marty McFly.

2. Flying cars

So far, the world has not invented flying cars yet. Although according to telegraph.uk, a company called Terrafugia has come up with a flying car in-the-making - the street-legal auto-airplane hybrid known as Transition.

3. Self-tying laces

There's no self-tying laces either, but Nike has promised to release power laces this year. According to the company, the shoes will have buttons on the side. The button will activate the self-tying ability of the shoes using a series of wheels and motors.

4. Time traveling machine

As much as time traveling makes everything convenient, the inventors of this time have not found a garbage that can convert an amount of energy needed for time traveling.

5. Prowling trash cans

Another thing that the movie did not get about 2015 is the concept of trash cans chasing pedestrians to warn them about dumping their waste.

6. Self-drying jacket

In the movie, the jacket worn by Marty dried itself after getting wet. As far as drying goes, we are pretty sure that drying a cloth still needs human assistance.

7. A machine that makes food fresh

Unlike what's seen on the movie, day-old pizzas cannot be turned into freshly baked ones in a matter of seconds with a push of a button.

On this day, "Back to the Future" Day is being celebrated with an appearance of the cast together with thousands of fans at Lincoln Center screening in New York. Filipino fans are also joining the celebration, making #BackToTheFuture one of Twitter's trending topic for today.
