MANILA, Philippines — Finnish textiles, clothing, and home furnishings company Marimekko is expanding its presence in Asia by opening stores in the Philippines and Indonesia.

The design company founded in 1951 is best known for its original prints and colors as well as high-quality clothing, bags, accessories, and home décor items ranging from textiles to tableware.

The brand confirmed the first stores in both markets are estimated to open within the next four months, operating under a loose franchise partnership model customary to the Marimekko stores in Asia.

Marimekko's loose franchise partner in the Philippines will be the Rustan Commercial Corp.

"We believe that now is a good time to introduce Marimekko's distinctive, iconic prints in bold colors to consumers in the Philippines," said Rustan's president Anthony Huang in a statement. "We are excited to start building together the Marimekko brand phenomenon further."

Opening in both countries will add to the current 24 branches in Southeast Asia, as well as online stores located in Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, and Vietnam.

As of end of 2025, there are 94 Marimekko stores and shop-in-shops in the Asia-Pacific region, excluding online stores.

"The Philippines is an attractive developing market for Marimekko, and we see this as a good time to introduce our brand to the consumers and gain experience," said Natacha Defrance, the brand's senior vice president for sales, Region East.

Defrance gave similar praises for the rapidly growing market in Indonesia, noting how the capital Jakarta is among the world's most populous cities and that a "growing appetite for interesting design is driving growth in the fashion market."

"We are very much looking forward to presenting Marimekko's joyful lifestyle concept to customers in these countries," she ended.
