SM City General Santos is now open

- The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - SM City General Santos, Philippines opened its doors to the public last Aug. 10. This is SM Prime Holdings’ 45th mall, and the third in Mindanao after SM City Davao and SM City Cagayan de Oro.

Cutting the ribbon were Rep. Pedro Acharon, General Santos Mayor Darlene Antonio Custodio, Vice Mayor Shirlyn Nograles, Fr. Romeo Buenaobra, Sufragia Salazar and Ramon Salazar. They were joined by SM Prime Holdings president Hans T. Sy and SM Supermarket vice chairman Herbert T. Sy. Sarangani Rep. and world famous boxing champion Manny Pacquiao and wife Jinkee also came to the blessing.

Located on a 73,000 sq.m. site in the corner of Santiago Boulevard and San Miguel Street, Logoo, General Santos, the three-story 125,000 sq.m. mall will serve customers in the bustling Soccsksargen area.

GenSan is the center of commerce, trade, and logistics in this growth area that includes South Cotobato, Cotobato City, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani Province, and General Santos City. A highly urbanized first class city, GenSan is the southernmost port city in the Philippines.

Backed with world-class infrastructure, it is the gateway to the opportunities, sights, sounds, and culture in the region. The General Santos International Airport is the largest in Mindanao, while the Makar Wharf is one of the finest in the country.

With its rich volcanic soil and well distributed rainfall, GenSan produces export quality high valued crops such as corn, coconut, pineapple, asparagus, banana, and rice. It is also the largest producer of sashimi-grade tuna in the country.

SM City General Santos’s architectural design and color motif is inspired by the city’s natural beauty. The mall’s exterior features a combination of complementing shades of refreshing blues and greens, recalling the natural environment for which the region is known for. A brightly colored al fresco dining area has water features and a pavilion space for entertainment functions.

The main entrances lead directly to the SM Department Store and a variety of other shops, creating an expansive and alluring experience. The mall’s main retail other anchor, the SM Supermarket, is strategically located at the Ground Floor to allow easy access for customers.

Upon entering the mall, customers are drawn to crisp white and orange colored ceiling panels reminiscent of outdoor canopy designs. Decorative light fixtures creatively illuminate the sculptured ceiling above and the patterned flow below.

Shopping is easy in the new three-storey mall as it internally connects a wide variety of shops, restaurants, junior anchors, and entertainment facilities. Apart from the Department Store and Supermarket, these include SM mainstays like the SM Appliance Center, ACE Hardware, Surplus, and Watsons; as well as a Cyberzone, four state of the art cinemas, and a Food Court.

The mall’s interiors, which feature natural materials, colorful floors, and ample natural daylight, are designed for an unforgettable shopping experience. Bamboo panels bring a natural element to the space by incorporating renewable resources into the project. The spacious Food Court brings the bright green planes of the outdoor pavilion into the mall and provides natural daylight; while large expanses of glass in the area allow for a sweeping outdoor view.

Getting to the mall is easy with a public utility terminal proving a covered entrance to the mall. There is also ample parking with a five -storey carpark building, which can accommodate almost 1,300 vehicles and motorcycles.

SM City General Santos’s design team includes DSGN A, Design Architects; Jose Siao Ling and Associates, Architect of Record; SM EDD Mall Design, In-House Architect; DAAA, Project Manager; and Monolith Construction Development Corporation, general contractor.
