Time to rush - big time
MANILA, Philippines - What happens when four boys from Minnesota suddenly fall into potential pop stardom? Brace yourselves for Big Time Rush, Nickelodeon’s newest series which airs on Mondays and Tuesdays at 5 p.m. Big Time Rush has been billed as a “fish out of water” sitcom following the lives of four 16-year-old pop music hopefuls named Kendall Knight (Kendall Schmidt), James Diamond (James Maslow), Carlos Garcia (Carlos Pena Jr), and Logan Mitchell (Logan Henderson) as they move to California and attend Palm Woods School — a swanky temporary housing development where entertainment companies house their budding new talent — and get introduced to the celebrity-fueled LA pop music scene. With this opportunity of a lifetime, they soon discover that their road to boy band stardom is laced with a lot of challenges including peer pressure, the need to belong, unsuccessful attempts to get dates, and not to mention their overbearing, hard-driving manager, Gustavo Rocque Stephen Kramer Glickman). Thus they learn about hard work and dedication, friendship and brotherhood.
But Big Time Rush is not about being famous from the beginning. “It’s about being thrown into something and sometimes just taking the chance,” Kendall, schemer of the group and always referred to as the band leader, said in a recent interview. It’s about being given a crazy opportunity and just going for it, he emphasized, to which the other boys echoed: “We’re here to tell people that if you really work hard you could be successful.”
James is the one who originally wanted to be in a boy band, is obsessed with his hair and always keeps his lucky comb in his jacket and takes personal head shots of himself. Carlos is the group’s joker and always likes to wear his hockey helmet. Logan, although tagged as the genius of the group, panics under pressure. Unlike their Big Time Rush experience, however, these boys were not just thrown into stardom in real life. Kendall had his share of the spotlight with Gilmore Girls while Logan starred in Friday Night Lights. James and Carlos aren’t new to Nickelodeon as they have been with iCarly and Ned’s DeClassified School Survival Guide, respectively.
With Big Time Rush’s premiere, expect original songs performed by the group under the guidance of Sony Music with music by some of today’s most successful songwriters and producers, including Desmond Child (Katy Perry, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith), Matthew Gerrard (Kelly Clarkson, Avril Lavigne), Charlie Midnight (Hilary Duff, Britney Spears), Kevin Rudolph (Let It Rock) and Eman (David Archuleta). In fact, the show’s theme song debuted strongly on iTunes in November, and more original music will be made available to download throughout the season.
This exciting series chronicles the wild and hilarious journey that follows after these guys get that life-changing, first big break. “It has lots of singing and funny gags,” the boys promised. “This is a really awesome show for Nickelodeon fans who love laughter, friendship and fun.”
