Making waves with the Heat Wave
March 3, 2004 | 12:00am
The Heat Wave is now such a big hit. Women with naturally straight-as-a-rod hair now sport soft, flowing curls. Others have said goodbye to damaging perms.
Hair expert Ricky Reyes proclaims that the Heat Wave will solve the problem of unmanageable, super-straight hair and big, frizzy permed hair.
Famous for introducing rebonding to Filipino women, Ricky makes waves again with the Heat Wave, a styling miracle that can be done even on color-treated hair. The Heat Wave uses chemicals that protect hair from abuse and leave it healthy, soft and shiny.
The best thing about the Heat Wave, Ricky points out, is that if your hair is damaged by a traditional perm, you dont have to wait for it to grow out. You can go for a Heat Wave as soon as the day after your perm. Bad perm yesterday, beautiful Heat Wave today!
True to his mission of making everyone look good, Ricky enjoins women with dull straight hair and frizzy perms to be beautiful again with the Heat Wave. Here, the styling maverick describes how its done:
Shampoo hair (dont condition) to get rid of impurities.
Apply protein protection treatment.
Cover hair in a plastic wrap. Put hair under the rotating ball infrared heating machine for 15-30 minutes, depending on the condition of hair. Damaged hair should be heated no longer than 15 minutes.
After heating, wind hair in curling rods. Rods should be secured vertically along the length of hair unlike traditional perms whose curlers are secured horizontally to achieve flowing waves, not tight curls.
Protect hair with foam pads. Plug curling rods into the heat wave machine.
After 15 minutes, unplug curling rods. Leave rods on hair for 10 minutes.
Remove curling rods. Apply heat wave neutralizer while scrunching hair. Leave neutralizer on for 20 minutes.
Shampoo hair. Style as desired.
Ricky explains that the Heat Wave is ideal for layered hair. It is a fuss-free hairstyle that can be styled by dampening hair with water and just separating curls. He also recommends using the styling gum and sculpting clay from his own line of styling products to separate curls. These leave hair silky, not heavy and sticky.
Heat Wave services are available exclusively at Ricky Reyes salons.
