The return of 'Xanadu'

-

MANILA, Philippines - Xanadu, the hit Broadway musical that recently took Manila by storm, skates back into town from Nov. 19 to Dec. 5 at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza, Makati.

Xanadu tells the story of a magical and beautiful Greek muse named Clio who disguises herself as Kira and descends from Mt. Olympus to Venice Beach, California in 1980 on a quest to inspire a struggling chalk mural artist, Sonny Malone, to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time — a roller disco. But her jealous sisters concoct a magic spell that turns both Venice Beach and Mount Olympus upside down.

Featured in this hilarious, roller skating, musical adventure about following your dreams despite the limitations others set for you are the hit songs of pop-rock legends Jeff Lynne and John Farrar, including Magic, All Over The World, Suddenly, I’m Alive, Evil Woman, Have You Never Been Mellow and Xanadu. It is based on the Universal Pictures’ cult classic film of the same title, which starred Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly.

Xanadu recently had a hit run in Manila with standing ovations and dancing in the aisles. Audiences returned as many as three times in the first run to spend the evening with some of the zaniest musical comedy characters and singing along to some hit songs from the ’80s.

The repeat run of Xanadu will feature the original cast led by star pop singer and theater artist Rachel Alejandro, who captured audiences hearts in the dual role of Kate Monster/Lucy The Slut in Avenue Q, as Kira and Felix Rivera (Avenue Q, Spelling Bee) as Sonny Malone. Joining them in the cast are Noel Trinidad, Leo Rialp, Chari Arespacochaga, Bea Garcia, Anthony Ong, Alys Serdenia, Glen Llanes, Robbie Zialcita and Yael Pineda (Disney’s The Lion King West End). Xanadu is directed by Bobby Garcia with set design by Lawyn Cruz, costume design by Twinkle Zamora, choreography by Cecile Martinez, musical direction by Ceejay Javier, lighting design by Jonsy Reyes and vocal coaching by ManMan Angsico.
