Joyce Sola.

MANILA, Philippines - The beauty of a woman radiates when she embraces her passion.

Joyce Sola, a professional makeup artist, graphic designer and beauty “vlogger,” has a heart that allows her to pursue things that make her happy. With this happiness glowing from within, she is able to achieve things that she once thought she would never be able to accomplish. Her YouTube channel called “Candyloveart,” where she reviews beauty products and does makeup tutorials, has thousands of subscribers with more than two million views to date.

A Fine Arts graduate who majored in Advertising from the College of the Holy Spirit in Manila, Joyce started as a graphic artist but with her desire to give in to her true passion, she decided to venture into makeup artistry. To improve her craft, she studied basic makeup at the Makeup Design Academy and went on to study airbrush and special effects makeup at 1939 Academy in Singapore. She also took a class under renowned special makeup effects artist David Willis.

“I am drawn to faces. In Fine Arts, I love drawing faces. In photography, I’m into portraiture. When I do makeup, it’s like painting a masterpiece with the face as a canvas. For me, it’s an art form. What I also like about doing makeup is it enhances the woman’s natural beauty and it also gives that confidence that she didn’t know she has in her,” she says.

Joyce credits her father Eduardo Sola, a dentist who once worked with Disney as an artist, for allowing her to follow her passion and do the things that make her happy. On the other hand, she shares that her mom Patricia Lao Sola, also a dentist, supports her 100 percent. “My mom is one of my inspirations, my best friend who is always there to guide me. She is my No. 1 fan and my No. 1 critic, too! She’s a strong woman.”

In the first video she uploaded on her YouTube channel in 2012, Joyce talked about eyebrows. She used Ever Bilena products, including her favorite product that she still swears by up to now — the Ever Bilena Original Pencil.

Today’s local cosmetics arena is full of an exciting mix of international and local brands that cater to the changing needs of women. Ever Bilena remains to be one of the top picks as a go-to brand for Filipinas. The trusted brand shares its products that are easily accessible in the market.

Ever Bilena Powder Foundation in Oriental

According to Joyce, powder foundation is more pigmented than the regular pressed powder, which is mostly used for touchups. For those who would just like to use light powder and do not need a lot of coverage, Joyce says “powder foundation is best” like the Ever Bilena’s Powder Foundation in Oriental. It’s a lightweight powder foundation that absorbs excess oil on the face and keeps it fresh all day. It also protects the face from harmful UVA/UVB rays.

Ever Bilena Matte Lipstick in Vogue Diva

“I love lipsticks with vibrant colors. Matte lipstick is nice because it stays longer on the lips,” says Joyce. A tip from her: use a lip pencil to outline or fill in the lips before you apply your favorite shade of matte lipstick. Joyce loves the Ever Bilena Matte Lipstick because, aside from being affordable, it leaves a matte but lightweight feel on the lips while keeping them soft and supple.

Ever Bilena All Day Eyeliner Pen

One of Joyce’s favorite Ever Bilena products is the All Day Eyeliner Pen, a long-wearing and smudge-proof eyeliner pen that has a soft-pointed tip for easier application. Joyce especially likes the eyeliner because “it’s especially nice because it defines the eyes. If you like the dramatic look with cat’s eye or wing tip, this eyeliner is your best option.”

Joyce believes that beauty comes from within, for a beautiful heart radiates through one’s physical beauty. “I am not perfect, I do have flaws. Makeup gives me that boost of confidence and the power to shine. But one also has to remember to carry the makeup and not let the makeup carry you. And last but not the least, always smile. That’s your best accessory,” she concludes.
