‘One Brighter World’

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The centenary year of the College of the Holy Spirit Manila (CHSM) kicked off in February 2013 with the theme “Spirit Ablaze,” which was a retrospective of the 100-year history of the S.Sp.S. (Servants of the Holy Spirit) congregation; how it grew from a tiny provincial school in northern Luzon, to branch out into many regional private schools, with the one in Mendiola, Manila as one of its “showcases.”

After this glimpse into the past, the closing celebration in 2014 led by the College and High School Golden Jubilarians for 2014 now look forward to the next 100 years and beyond to “One Brighter World,” capitalizing on the trail blazed by the sisters and highlighting its alumni’s contributions to society and the world.

The CHSM administration, led by its very capable and innovative president, Dr. Felina Co-Young, has short-, medium- and long-range education plans for the school: to expand the curriculum to offer courses that are in line with the ever-changing digital world, implement new systems of teaching, upgrade equipment and physical facilities and structures, conduct continuing education programs for both students and faculty, among others. All these to open the students’ eyes to “One Brighter World.”

The alumni’s achievements speak for themselves, as shown by the dent they are making in their respective fields of endeavor worldwide. Their excellent track record in foreign service, medicine, business, banking, fine arts, hotel and restaurant management, education, science, among many others, are just a few examples of what is in store for the next breed of alumni’s and scholars’ “brighter world.”

The CHS Alumni Foundation met recently to plan programs leading to next year’s celebration. Dodit Ocampo Reyes, (third from left) of the Golden Jubilarian HS Class ‘64 is the Centenary Homecoming chairperson. Flanking her (from left) are program committee members Nellie Lee-Alvarez and Enya Cruz-Ylagan, alumni foundation president Sabsy Palanca, Charlyn Alfonso Cabanero, Jojie Garcia Alfonso and Maribel Cabrera.
