'Men Who Matter'

- Johnny Litton - The Philippine Star

Nine men of the moment are making history with the lives they lead today.

“We have a lot of men who matter here but we have to pick the best,” said PeopleAsia publisher Babe Romualdez in his welcome message at the magazine’s Men Who Matter 2012 held recently at the exclusive Genting Club of Resorts World Manila.

This year’s Men Who Matter include Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada, businessman/sportsman Mikee Romero, media personality Boy Abunda, athletes Phil and James Younghusband, children’s education advocate Joel Uichico, agri-businessman Tony Tiu, broadcast journalist Howie Severino and marathon organizer Rio dela Cruz.

They were honored on stage by Babe Romualdez, PeopleAsia editor-in-chief Joanne Rae Ramirez, GM Beth Mendoza, Resorts World EVP Stephen Reilly and Chevrolet managing director and president Albert Arcilla.

Gracing the occasion were celebrities, businessmen and diplomats such as Israeli Ambassador Menashe Bar-On, Indonesian Ambassador Yohanes Kristiarto Legowo, South African Ambassador Agnes Nyamande-Pitso and US Embassy Consul General Michael Schimmel.

TV personality Phoemela Baranda hosted the evening’s program, which kicked off with an SM Men’s Fashion show, featuring Daniel Matsunaga and Hideo Muraoka, among several faces of SM Men’s Fashion. GMA 7’s La Diva trio of singers regaled the audience with rousing numbers.

The event was presented by Chevrolet, Resorts World, Rustan’s, SM Men’s Fashion and Nu U.
