UPTOWN DOWNTOWN - Joanne Zapanta-Andrada -

And so the Christmas countdown begins! This season, designer and St. Benilde fashion academician John Guarnes brings out his most festive collection yet.

“I believe that color plays a major role in dressing for the holidays. Can we please stay away from black for a few weeks?” Guarnes laughs. “I have kept my lines fairly clean and have chosen opulent fabric. There is chiffon and satin. I have noticed that many designers have a preference for stretch satin. It makes perfect sense to use this material as it falls well and is very forgiving to women who do not have model-thin figures.”

For those special holiday affairs, Guarnes shares the following tips, “Go ahead and accessorize but do not pile every piece of jewelry on your body. Do not mix gold and silver pieces. If you choose large earrings as your accessory statement, ditch the necklace as you will be overloading items on your top. If you must add to the look, opt for a bracelet or ring instead. Play around with jewel colors. Your parties will certainly be awash with yellow lights; red, green and glittery decorations will be everywhere. Jewel colors will complement the celebratory atmosphere.”

“And last but not the least,” Guarnes adds, “have fun! This is the season everyone has been waiting for! Celebrate with color and fabulous fashion!”
