Black & white & red all over

UPTOWN DOWNTOWN - Joanne Zapanta-Andrada -

This holiday season, fashion designer Rem Divino presents a collection in hues of black, white and red. The Europe- and Dubai-trained fashion designer has long been known for his superb execution of cocktail dresses and evening gowns.

“I believe that a woman can make an impressive fashion impact without going over the top,” Divino shares. “My choice of colors this season is based on my belief that these hues provoke drama. I am not however one who thinks that ‘more is more’ so I temper these tones with classic lines and carefully-placed accents.”

Divino’s materials of choice this season are stretch silk chiffon and gazar silk. “These materials are light on the body and fall beautifully. The stretch silk allows for a better fit.”

When asked about his fashion advice for the holidays, Divino says, “Be aware of your accessories. If you are wearing a simple gown or dress, a pair of earrings or a necklace can go a long way in adding punch to your outfit. However, if your attire already has embellishments, keep your jewelry simple. Choose studded earrings or a single strand bracelet. There is a tendency for women to pile loads of jewelry on themselves. This only works if one is going for an ultra bohemian look. I would like to suggest that they generally keep the look streamlined. I also would like to advise ladies to be conscious of the proportions of their accessories. If you are small-boned and petite, stay away from large and chunky jewelry as they will overwhelm you.”

Divino adds that most of his clothes have their own embellishments so women who he designs for know that they should keep their accessories light.

“Lamination is a tedious process where intricate patterns are hand cut and fused into fabric. I find that lamination adds to the opulence of a dress or gown. It certainly isn’t something you see every day. I like women of every body type to feel confident about themselves and I believe that I have helped them feel that sense of empowerment when they wear my clothes,” he ends.
