FASHION PERSONA - FASHION PERSONA By Jenni Epperson -
"Drugs, rock and roll, bad-ass Vegas hoes, late night booty call, shiny disco balls (I mean bags)... disco... disco!" No, Fashion Persona has not gone mad. This is a line from artist Who Da Funks’ biggest hit last year and to date, one of the clubbers’ anthem. To those who are more clued-in to the ’70s, it’s like the Staying Alive soundtrack or the ’80s Tears for Fears’ Mad World. Those were times when evening bags were not only a fashion must-carry in clubs and discos but also as a constant loyal late night "companion." Women dancing, prancing in frivolous frocks showing off their moves (and bags) on the dance floor – very Studio 54, StarGazer and NBC Tent – very nice!

Empress Josephine of the 19th century was the first to fashion the evening bag as a proper hand-held purse (during ancient times, bags were worn as pouches tied to the waist). Today, bags are still kept close to a woman’s body – a bag represents a second sex (Freud may see it that way) not to overpower nor divert attention but complement a woman.

Sparkly, glittery and metallic bags are a woman’s glamorous best friends. They can add sparkle to a little black dress, dress up an over-used denim jeans, mixed and matched with flip-flops and baby tees. The possibilities are endless and these eye candies are constant show stoppers.

Go for Swarovski-encrusted bags to complement this season’s ’50s lady-like trend, or if you’re budget-conscious, opt for sequined bags – they’re less expensive but have the same glittery appeal.

Thinking of doing an ’80s number sans those shoulder pads? Then pair your stovepipe jeans or black leggings with a metallic clutch. Going gaga over ’60s revival? Don a shiny patent wristlet in fruity colors or beaded bags in graphic designs.

Grab the littlest one you can find, just enough room for a lipstick and cash, and bring lots of attitude! Shall we dance?
