Fly high in the summer skies

OH YES, IT'S JOHNNY! - Johnny Litton -
"I love summer vacation. It’s so relaxing… to get back to work again." – Gene Perret

Being a frequent traveler – especially during summer – it certainly comes as a relief to enjoy the trademark Cebu Pacific hospitality. I booked Cebu Pacific for my flight to Cebu, and it proved to be the right choice. My trip was truly relaxing and enjoyable.

After checking in, I was ushered to the Summit Lounge while awaiting boarding time. Hanging out at the nice and quiet lounge is a privilege for Summit Club members, the airline’s unique Frequent Flyer Program. Being a member also offers rewards like free flights, priority service, special rates and benefits with Summit Club Partner Companies and a dedicated member service center. The lounge has cozy couches that allowed me to read the morning paper while sipping my coffee.

I boarded and settled comfortably into my seat. Lovely cabin attendants Mimi Ilano, Gemma Planas and Tuttie Morales helped me with my bags. After the routine safety instructions, the plane took off on time as always (thanks to the very able Capt. Jojo Briones and First Officer BJ Gorospe) while I busied myself with a Tom Clancy book.

Cebu Pacific has gone a long way since its launch in 1996. From being "the little airline that could," it now has 12 McDonnell Douglas DC-9s and two Boeing 727-200 aircrafts flying regionally at 11 major local destinations with almost 70 flights daily. It recently introduced twice daily flights to Hong Kong and four times weekly flights to Seoul. It also began flying between Subic and Seoul and Cebu and Seoul. To cap its anniversary month, daily flights between Manila and Puerto Princesa and between Cebu and Butuan have been kicked off.

The airline recently marked its seventh anniversary. Employees donning Island Souvenir T-shirts featuring different Philippine destinations. They thanked passengers by raffling off special prizes such as pillows and vanity kits. On the day of the celebration, musicians serenaded the whole Manila Domestic Airport and an artist drew caricatures of Cebu Pacific passengers.

After seven years of service, the airline remains true to the "low fare, great value" strategy it pioneered by offering great deals and promos to commuters. The Commuter Pass is a booklet of 11 blank tickets (for the price of 10) that customers themselves can fill up with their flight details. Hotel Plus offers the best room rates at Cebu Pacific partner hotels. The Mactan Express Early Bird gives the convenience of air travel without the usual airport traffic and provides convenient connections for international passengers.

As our plane ascended, the friendly cabin attendants did their best to make us feel safe. I was assured knowing that the airline has certifications for Aviation Quality and Safety (AQS 9000/121) and ISO 9002, on top of passing the Air Transportation Office’s stringent air-worthiness audits, making it the first airline in the world to receive such certifications.

Passengers were delighted when prizes were raffled off to lucky travelers. Cebu Pacific is the only domestic carrier that offers fun in the skies with "Fun Flights" or onboard games and inflight surprises. Corporate communications manager Viveca Singson epitomizes Cebu Pacific’s caring philosophy. She says they are in the business "not just to serve but to delight the customers."

We all enjoyed the usual smooth landing by Cebu Pacific’s expert pilots. On-time flying has always been Cebu Pacific’s battle cry. Their on-the-dot departures are consistent and flight cancellations and delays are rare. I’m glad I could have enough time to rest before taking a dip in Plantation Bay’s lagoons and pools.

"You above all," is the airline’s motto. With its incomparable reliability and service, I will continue to fly Cebu Pacific for my business and pleasure trips, summertime or any other time.
