Rica Peralejo speaks out vs misogyny this Women’s Month

MANILA, Philippines — Actress Rica Peralejo had a strong message for men who use women in their misogynistic statements this Women’s Month.

In an interview with Philstar.com after the press conference for the She Shines Summit, Rica said that she thanked men for their misogynistic remarks for making it clear why Women’s Month needs to be celebrated.

“Unang-una nagpapasalamat ako sa mga lalaking ito na nagpatunay na kung bakit kailangan natin ng Women’s Month,” she said.

“Gusto ko lang mag thank you sa kanila na parang you just made it so clear to us that women are disadvantaged in many ways. Still in 2026, may ganito pa rin na mindset,” she added.

She also had a message for women, saying they are lucky to be alive in this era.

“But for the women, I think we're all very lucky to be alive in this day and age where the voice is getting stronger and it's drowning out all the other voices in the past that tell us that, you know, we're all, we're the second class and that we are weak, that we are not as strong as men, and that we deserve less, even if, you know, people don't say it to say directly that way, policies, little jokes here and there ano e betrayed that e. Ito pala 'yung tingin nila sa atin,” she said.

“I'm really grateful for those who are standing up. I'm just really grateful for women who continue to stand for the rights of women and the value of women na feeling ko talagang nakakatulong on the whole na ma-realize natin kung ano talaga 'yung para sa atin. So thank you sa mga babaeng patuloy na nakikipaglaban para marinig talaga ang boses namin,” she added.

The 2nd She Shines Summit is scheduled on March 28 at the Gallio Events Hall in Aseana City, Parañaque City.

The summit combines candid behind-the-scenes conversations, practical business insights, leadership discussions, a live pitch platform and storytelling from founders who have built enduring brands.

This year’s She Shines Summit features a roster of women who are actively building and leading in their respective fields.

Among the speakers are Koleen Chua Yap, co-founder of Aegyo Cakes; Ryna Brito-Garcia, CEO of Sunlight Air; Alexa Jocom, founder and CEO of Halia; Ashley Colet, content creator and founder of Ash Luxe Nails; Cleo Loque, founder of Hiraya Pilipina; Maika Cruz-de Jesus, founder of Experiences by Maika Cruz; Ria Perez, co-founder of Joyeria Jewellery; Kristine Tobillo, founder of The Brow Studio; and Jonah Sison-Ramos of Dear Face Beauty.

Also joining the lineup is Angeline Tham, founder of Angkas, who will speak on leading with clarity and conviction and the distinct advantage women bring to business leadership.
