When doing good gets better

Making the world more sustainable: Ai dela Cruz, Team Globe of Good ambassador; Mark Pasaylo, Globe Platinum head; Yoly Crisanto, Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications officer; Givielle Florida, Globe Prepaid head; Eric Tanbauco, Consumer Mobile Business head; and Luigi Tan, media and performance manager

Here’s a question for the corporate bosses: Are your employees excited to go to work?

If you ask Yoly Crisanto, Globe’s chief sustainability and corporate communications officer, she’ll probably smile and tell you without a moment’s hesitation, “Yes!”

That’s because Yoly’s team goes to work knowing that in their own little way, they can give back to the community and maybe even make a difference in other people’s lives.

“Every employee has one Volunteer Time Off annually and many participate in ongoing efforts like supporting DSWD’s National Resources Operations Center,” Yoly enumerates some initiatives. “Our trained employees promote online safety and digital skills in schools nationwide. Employees can support the country’s transition to EVs (electric vehicles) by riding EVs for intersite office travels during peak hours and availing themselves of EVs for their car plans.”

Making sustainability relatable

In this workplace, sustainability is more than a buzzword. “It’s a commitment in everything we do — in the way we operate, serve, and lead,” Yoly stresses. “We want to make sustainability more relatable and easier for every Filipino to take part in.”

Yoly herself has pushed for impactful practices, like “virtual meetings over travel, reusable materials and thoughtful communications.”

As an incentive and to thank their employees, Yoly discloses, “We celebrate teams and individuals who show leadership in sustainability through internal platforms where participation in sustainability efforts is recognized.”

The company’s Valero Telepark offices in Makati received the Special Award for Innovative Contribution from the Department of Energy, having shifted to energy-efficient systems, paperless workflows, and waste reduction habits.

Yoly asserts, “More importantly, we advocate for a mindset: Sustainability is not just about compliance; it’s about care — care for people, care for the planet.”

Globe of Good was recently launched as the company’s new sustainability masterbrand, bringing together all of its environmental and social impact programs under a single, cohesive platform.

Scams and spams

However, Yoly warns against the many spams and scams so rampant in today’s digital world. “We don’t send SMS with a link. Do not click on that link because it’s a scam and a spam. We teach everyone how to be a responsible online citizen. We try to curb incidents of cyber bullying and invested $2.7 million for content filtering because children are our customers, too.”

Aside from volunteerism, Yoly highlights the Hapag Movement, “a four-year program that started immediately after the pandemic because we felt many people were still hungry. And we’re extending this — it’s no longer just for involuntary hunger but for something even more pressing: child stunting, the 0 to 1,000 days of a child, when the mother is still pregnant until she gives birth.”

Fine dining with a soul

Now comes the Gastronome Giving Series, in partnership with Fine Dining Club Philippines, which brings together some of the country’s celebrated chefs and destination restaurants to fight involuntary hunger through the Hapag Movement. Enjoy curated tasting journeys, whether it’s the uniquely flavorful Basque-Filipino fare at Makati’s hidden dining spot Goxo, the wood-fired specials from the dazzling tropical kitchen of Kasa Palma in Poblacion, or the deliciously flirtatious Filipino/global tasting menu at Taupe, BGC, as well other culinary gems at other stops including Cavite, Cebu and Siargao.

Each plate served translates to a meal for a family in need. Hapag Movement has fed 120,455 families and empowered them through livelihood programs so they need not go hungry for good.

“Gastronome Giving allows us to connect fine dining with purposeful action,” declares Mark Pasaylo, Globe Platinum head. “It demonstrates how different sectors can work together to help address involuntary hunger affecting millions of Filipinos.”

And the giving never ends. “Through GoGIVE, we are transforming data into a force for good,” explains Givielle Florida, head of Globe Prepaid. “This platform offers a fresh and convenient way to give back to the community, especially for digital natives.”

The GoGIVE beneficiaries include World Vision, PAWS, Project Pearls, Tzu Chi Foundation, PGH Foundation, and the Philippine Eagle Foundation.
