CHED targets 394,000 SHS graduates for college this year

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) is targeting at least 394,000 senior high school (SHS) graduates to enroll in colleges and universities for Academic Year (AY) 2026-2027, CHED chairperson Shirley Agrupis said on Friday.
She encouraged SHS graduates to take college entrance examinations and avail themselves of government scholarship programs to help support their studies.
“If necessary, go to their Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) office so that they can check whether they are in the list or not,” Agrupis said.
At the same time, Agrupis urged SHS graduates to apply for the Presidential Merit Scholarship Program, which she described as the administration’s flagship scholarship initiative.
“This is the banner scholarship program of the President that covers top five percent graduating senior high school to priority areas or fields that Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM2) has identified,” Agrupis said.
Agrupis said at least 20,000 scholarship slots are available for the first semester of AY 2026-2027.
