Philippine donates $200,000 to UN emergency fund
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines announced a contribution of $200,000 to the UN Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) for next year, reaffirming its commitment to effective, principled and solidarity-based multilateralism.
In the High-Level Pledging Event for the CERF on Dec. 10, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs underscored CERF’s vital role in providing rapid, effective and life-saving assistance to conflict-affected areas.
Philippine Permanent Representative to the UN Enrique Manalo underscored the Philippines’ progression from a modest early contributor to a steadfast and dependable donor, demonstrating its strong partnership with the United Nations and its continued support for global humanitarian response.
“Middle-income countries such as the Philippines play a crucial role in shaping CERF’s future by driving multilateral action for those at the intersection of vulnerability, capability and resilience,” Manalo said.
Manalo underscored three key priorities for humanitarian action through CERF: expanding anticipatory action and ensuring triggers remain context-specific; widening the contributor base by bringing in non-traditional donors and the private sector and investing in climate-smart financing tools.
