MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Agriculture (DA) has prepositioned over P384 million worth of assistance for farmers and fisherfolk as Super Typhoon Uwan hit the country, the agency announced yesterday.

The support includes farm inputs valued at P379.31 million for rice, corn and high-value crops; P1.24 million in animal feeds and supplements for livestock and poultry, and P771,620 worth of bangus and tilapia fingerlings.

In addition, 2.57 million bags of rice from the National Food Authority are ready for distribution to local government units and other relief agencies.

The DA is also providing financial support through its Quick Response Fund for rehabilitation, zero-interest loans of up to P25,000 under the Survival and Recovery Loan Program, and indemnification for insured farmers through the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation.

Regional DA offices have coordinated with local governments and disaster risk reduction councils to ensure the timely delivery of aid.

Officials said they are also monitoring the prices and movement of agricultural commodities to maintain stability and protect affected communities.
